James Wallington

Architectural Assistant

James is an Architectural Assistant at Modal Architecture, bringing a fresh perspective, strong technical ability and an enthusiastic approach to residential design.

Having recently completed his architectural studies, James is at the beginning of his professional career and is building on the design, research and technical skills developed through university. He has a particular interest in thoughtful contemporary architecture and the process of turning an early design idea into something resolved, considered and ultimately buildable.

James brings plenty of energy and curiosity to the team. He is sharp, hardworking and keen to keep developing his knowledge, whether working through the early stages of measuring a home, to exploring new design ideas or learning from the wider team.

Outside architecture, James has a strong appreciation for good food and hospitality. He enjoys cooking, discovering new places to eat and making a particularly good cocktail.

He also enjoys travelling and getting outdoors, with an appreciation for New Zealand's landscapes and the opportunities they offer to explore beyond the city. Whether it is architecture, food, travel or the outdoors, James tends to approach things with the same curiosity and enthusiasm he brings to his work.

As one of the younger members of the Modal team, James brings a refreshing perspective to the studio while continuing to develop his architectural experience across real residential projects.
