A Multi-Generational Sanctuary of Light and Landscape
Fjord House is a sophisticated, multi-storey residence designed to balance contemporary architectural flair with deep practical functionality. Located in Aotea, Porirua, the design responds to its challenging site with a distinctive, refined facade that grounds the home within its natural textures while opening up to sweeping views of the harbour.
Our client sought a home that could seamlessly support multi-generational living, specifically focusing on accessibility and quality of life for his parents. The objective was to create a space that stands out from the street while remaining functional for the needs of our client, and his aging family.
Design Features
- Bespoke Layout: The ground floor is dedicated to primary living needs and accessibility, featuring a master suite for his parents with strategic views and level entry throughout.
- High Performance: True to our founding principles, the design integrates passive solar shading and high-performance principles to ensure year-round comfort and energy efficiency.
- Seamless Transitions: The architecture utilises double-height glazing and framed views to create a continuous flow between light-filled interconnected interiors and outdoor recreational spaces.
- Future-Proof Connectivity: A purposefully integrated lift serves as the central bridge between levels, ensuring long-term liveability and effortless movement for all family members.
The Outcome
Through a rigorous collaborative process, moving from initial sketches through precise 3D computer modelling, we refined every element to enhance buildability and cost efficiency. The result is a home that is more than just a functional building; it is a transformative living experience tailored to its occupants' unique legacy and land.
